Champdepraz Power Plant

For renewable energy production, the Champdepraz run-of-river hydroelectric plant uses the power of water flowing down the valley, passing through a series of natural lakes located around 2,000 meters (Gran Lake, Cornuto Lake, Nero Lake, and Bianco Lake) and then feeding the Chalamy stream to the intake structure located at 1,178 meters above sea level.

The three generator sets present are equipped with Pelton turbines, which together generate a power output of 3.54 MW. The original project also included the construction of a 3.5 million m3 dam near the lakes and a second plant to use hydraulic power in the jump between the dam and the Champdepraz plant intake structure, but these were never built. The Champdepraz plant, which went into service in 1919, is among the 5 CVA plants with a capacity of less than 5 MW, thus falling into the category of small hydroelectric plants.
