Perrères Dam

The Perrères Dam, located in the municipality of Valtournenche, was built between 1939 and 1941. The dam structure is in an excellent location, embedded between the steep walls carved into the rock by the erosion of the Goillet natural lake outfall.

The reservoir created by the weir is in fact contained in one of the lake basins of ancient glacial origin carved into the rocks in the area. The underlying catchment basin appears to be partly covered by glaciers.

The shores of the lake surface are still, for the most part, in their natural state. In the upstream section of the right bank there is a recently built hydroelectric power plant, while on the left bank the reservoir is located just below S.R. No. 46 for Cervinia. Beyond this is the Perrères hydroelectric power plant, which participates in feeding the reservoir through discharge from turbines and is capable of expressing 18 MW of power to produce renewable energy.

Access to the Perrères Dam is provided on the left bank directly from the road tunnel of S.R. No. 46, through a rock tunnel that provides access to the remote control room.
